About Buying Make Money Online Products
You know the new traffic generating software, or tutorial on how to quadruple your income in 5 minutes, or how to make x amount in a short time
There is an abundance of them on the web and honestly some of them have really useful tips. I bought a program recently and one tip in the first video I watched on that tutorial has helped me double the traffic to one of my sites.
Well it's not the tip actually, it's implementing it that worked.
I am getting off track here so back to the point. Some of the products out there are really useful and will help your business but the majority won't.
There is a proliferation of products by people who built the blog or website and could NOT make money from it.
So they thought 'Hang on, I can make money by making a tutorial on how to make money online'
???? Hang on a minute. You cannot make money online by affiliate marketing, adsense , whatever so you thought you'd make money by teaching people how to do that which you could not achieve. Hmmm
And people fall for it!!
So before you buy your next training videos or ebook, take a second to find out about the guy who wrote it

Disclaimer Page. Every Affiliate Marketing Site Needs A Disclaimer
For those of us in the make money online niche, adding a page with a 'no guarantee of earnings' clause is second nature.
But what about other niches?
Here are some reasons why you need to have a disclaimer page irrespective of what niche you are promoting products in.
New FTC regulation
The new FTC regulations effective from December 2009 has implications for affiliate marketers. While the aim is to stop people endorsing products they have not used and also to stop people making claims that are unfounded or outlandish [hype], the regulations leave us affiliate marketers a little vulnerable. Especially because we get a commission for successfully promoted products. This means that we should have evidence that the product we are promoting has the effects we claim in our promotions in the majority of people that use it.
Litigation
There has been a recent spate of claims where the consumer has gone after the affiliate marketer when products do not live up to expectations. While I have not found a record of any of these claims being successful, it really can be a drag to go through the process.
It makes sense therefore to protect your business by having a page with a disclaimer and a statement that you are an affiliate of the products recommended on your site. And link to your disclaimer page from every page on your website or blog.
While the disclaimer does not make you bullet proof, it does go a long way to reducing the number of claims that will come your way.
Having said all that, your best defense still remains promoting products that you absolutely believe in and that do what it says on the can for the majority of users.

Niche Marketing Statistics. How Often Do You Check
And before I launch into this, I just need to say that any serious internet marketer needs to have some method of analyzing the traffic to your websites and your conversions. Traffic analysis is crucial. If you haven't got analysis on your sites, stop reading this and go to Google analytics and set up your traffic analysis. It's free and will significantly help your business. No kidding.
Back to our discussion, for those of us that are smart and have website analysis, how often do we or should we check our stats?
As an affiliate marketing newbie, I checked my stats every few hours. By few I mean at least every couple of hours. I don't know what I was looking for. A sudden surge of traffic to my 6 page website with no backlinks. Wishes and horses come to mind.
And then I started getting traffic and the frequency of the stats review went up.
Then the penny dropped.
How much time am I spending [ or rather wasting] checking my website statistics? Loads.
So the mind change occured and the time was spent on building backlinks and content on my then 6 page website.
Then another penny dropped
My SEO efforts, the backlinks and the on page changes take TIME to have an effect on my websites traffic!
Hmmm. More evidence that maybe checking my statistics every two hours is a bit of a pointless exercise.
So how about now?
With websites getting anything from a hundred to a few thousand views a day [varies with the website] there really is not the need to check every two hours to see if that one visitor has been.
Yes, I do some statistics analysis on most days. But this is to see that the traffic generating campaigns that I have set up are still sending me traffic. And also to see the results of any new methods.
So in sharing my experience with you, I hope you realize that traffic analysis is important but do not let it get in the way of the activities that DO help you make money with your website

Using Torrents To Guide Affiliate Product Selection
In the UK and US sharing copyrighted content that is not yours is illegal and lets face it grossly unethical
But these sites are useful when you are trying to decide whether or not to promote a product as an affiliate marketer
A little background
I bought an affiliate marketing ebook and was pretty excited about it. The content was great and the tips when I applied them resulted in increased income to me
So of course I joined the affiliate program and promoted it on one of my sites and to my affiliate marketing email list
And I got a ton of clicks but very few conversion
Hmmm! What gives?
So I did a web search for the product name plus words like 'scam', 'problems' etc
I thought perhaps the product had got some bad press or something
On one of these searches, I think it was the problems search, I came across a torrent site where the ebook was being shared
And the penny dropped
Why would anyone buy a product from my affiliate link when they can get it for free??
So now before promoting a product as an affiliate, be it marketing tutorials or a movie, I do a Google search for the product name + torrent to see what comes up.
If there's a ton of torrent sites "sharing" the product, I tend to avoid putting too much effort into promoting it.
Not because of a lack of faith in the product but because I probably will not get great conversions

About The New FTC regulations And Affiliate Marketers
For those of you who are totally unaware, the Federal trade commission has revised it's guidelines regarding endorsements and testimonials.
So how does this affect us as affiliate marketers
- Disclosure: As an affiliate marketer, there must be a disclosure included on every page stating your relationship to the product and that you get a commission for sales secured
- Accuracy: You are responsible for checking out the product and making sure that as far as your level of expertise, it does what it claims to do
- False Testimonials: that's self explanatory really
- Corroboration: In promoting a product it is the usual outcome of using the product that you can comment on not unusual outcomes [All those make $10000 overnight training courses suddenly spring to mind] You may be required to provide proof of such claims.
So those are the main things I have picked up so far
The question is does this really affect you as a niche marketer or affiliate marketer.
Well it really does depend on how you have conducted your business so far.
If you have followed the principles in this blog, you have no reason to worry. We have already covered promoting only products that you truly believe in.
We have also talked in some posts about how buying and using the product is the best way to get a feel of whether the product works and also allows you to promote the product with enthusiasm.
We have mentioned that having a disclaimer or disclosure on your site is crucial. Albeit it was with regards to AdSense but seems all forms of advertising apply
So perhaps there is not much cause for alarm for the ethical marketer
I'd advice though that you all take a look at the new guidelines and make sure that you've crossed all your T's and dotted all your I's

Affiliate Marketing Money for Nothing
Because that's what affiliate marketing is. You tell people about a product you like. They go and buy that product, mention to the vendors that you suggested it and presto! the merchants pay you a commission. And it's sometimes up to half the value of the product. Shock horror
Pretty freaky but it made sense
So I looked around for affiliate programs for a couple of things I really like. Things I rave to my friends about.
One was my laptop. I loved my laptop. I could go on for hours talking about the reasons why this one laptop is the best on the market.
Anyway after a few minutes searching for an affiliate program for my particular brand and then a further few hours of website building and.... I was an affiliate marketer for my particular brand of laptop. Still promoting it.
The upside is I can go on and on to my hearts content about the merits of this product. And the people reading my content are actually interested in what I am saying. No more eyes glazing over from my audience
And you get a pay check!!
So perhaps affiliate marketing is not exactly money for nothing. But it certainly is a great way of earning a living

High Ticket Affiliate Products Versus Inexpensive Products
It's easier to get someone to spend $7 than $1500 right?
Wrong or so I found out.
High ticket vs Low ticket affiliate product refunds
Imagine you were out shopping and came across a low cost item which you are not sure if you want or not. To make things easier on yourself you buy it. After all it's only $7 and there is not much point in standing there trying to decide. You get home and decide you do not really want this product after all. Most people would reach for the receipt and packaging and make a mental note to take it with them next time they go to that store.
Now imagine that product is an info product that you bought on line with a 30 or 60 day guarantee. [Sounds familiar?]
How easy would it be to click the button to get your refund?
Take the same person who is about to buy a $1500 product. Most of us do not shell out that kind of money without due thought, a lot more thought, discussions and thought again. This means that by the time the high ticket item is purchased, the buyer is absolutely certain that he wants it. Less risk of refunds
High ticket vs low tag affiliate product clientele
The market for high ticket affiliate products is totally different from the customers who will buy the low price stuff.
You have to find each market and access it over and over again.
But the amount of work required for either market really does not vary based on the tag on the product you are promoting.
It's back to basics again here. It takes targeted traffic and a good presell, whatever the price tag of the product you are promoting as an affiliate
High price tag versus inexpensive affiliate products commissions
Generally but not always, high ticket affiliate products give a 15 to 30% commission to their affiliates. And the low priced items especially digital products could offer a commission of 50 to 75%
Please remember I said not always, there definitely are exceptions to this
And affiliates could be put off by the low percent commission payout of high ticket products. But take this real life example
Product ~ $2400 Commission ~ £350
Product ~$60 Commission ~ $45
Which sale do you think made my day?
I am not saying go after high price affiliate products exclusively. That would be bad advice.
But I am saying that affiliate marketers, especially newbie affiliate marketers should not be afraid to include high price tag affiliate products in their promotions.
As I got a little more experience in affiliate marketing, I decided to mix things up a little. So I promote some high price tag items and also some of the lower priced products.
And for me this has worked out well

About the make money online niche
And you can understand the excitement they feel on finding this wonderful new business and the challenge of affiliate marketing. Heaven knows I was really excited when I got into affiliate marketing.
And the make money online niche is profitable and exciting and has a lot going for it. It's one of my niches
But for a newbie, a non marketing niche should be a serious consideration. And there are lots of untapped potentially profitable niches out there.
The reason for encouraging newbies to go into niches other than the affiliate marketing niche or make money online niche is simple
There are people who have been marketing online for many years and whose level of expertise is way beyond that of newbie. And a lot of them are into the affiliate marketing or make money online niche.
As a newbie, you really need to learn the basics and learn them well if you have any hope of competing with these guys.
The time investment and skill required is a huge obstacle for the newbie to overcome before they can expect to make any money in the make money online niche
But if you are into another not so competitive niche, chances of making some money are higher. It is earnings that keep you motivated.
Once you are making a significant amount of money in other niches, then you are in a position of authority i.e. you know what works and have made it work.
It is then that you should start your own 'make money online' website or blog.
Had to write this post because a lot of comments in the forums are from disappointed newbies in affiliate marketing. You click on their signature link and it takes you to a website or blog in the make money online niche.
No wonder they think affiliate marketing does not work

Are You Choosing The Right Keywords
Well maybe not
There is one crucial ingredient missing from this formula
The missing factor is 'Searcher's Intent'
There is no single subgroup of searchers intent that is appropriate across the whole range of methods of making money online
Let's look at the different categories of Internet users
Killing time.
They are looking for nothing and hoping to find something.
They are not ready to buy anything.
This is not appropriate traffic for your persuasive, cleverly written affiliate sales pitch.
They use general keywords and are more suited for AdSense type sites
Curious Cat.
They just want to know.
Tend to use keywords that include 'what is' or 'definition of' or just the general keywords.
It's interesting that they often use pretty long tail keywords but this is a situation where long tail does not convert to sales
Again ideal for AdSense sites
Getting Warm.
They know they need to buy that new plasma screen TV but are not quite sure what brand or when or where they want to buy it.
They are still at the market research place in there minds.
Keywords used are a mixed bag.
Some general e.g plasma TV and some more specific i.e Sony plasma TV.
The buying keyword prefixes e.g 'cheap', 'discount', 'sale', 'outlet'; tend to feature here
They sometimes use highly specific product specifications and those that do are closer to moving into the credit card wielding category.
This is the crowd you want to throw your sales pitch at, especially the subgroup who are ready to make the change to buyers.
These people and the keywords they target are ideal for affiliate marketing.
They are still open to persuasion and can be converted with a good pre-sell
Credit Card Wielding.
They know what they want, where they want to get it from and exactly how much they are willing to pay.
They tend to use the exact product name that they are looking for, specs and all.
They do not browse for long.
Because this crowd have already decided, they really are not as easy to convert as the getting warm crowd. They have decided about getting the product from Amazon for example. You really need to have a good, concise and slick sales pitch to get their attention if you are not Amazon.

Learn Affiliate Marketing Basics First
A frequently quoted statistic is only 10% of affiliate marketers make a significant income online
10% is not very good. In fact it's bad
So how does a newbie affiliate marketer ensure that he or she is one of the 10%
By learning the basics of affiliate marketing, learning the basics well and implementing it
Let's be honest.
Affiliate marketing is not rocket science
The beauty of affiliate marketing is it's simplicity
- You find a product that is good and has an affiliate program... Not difficult
- You build a webpage that presells this product to your readers.... Not difficult
- You get traffic to the page you built..... Well I admit, this one can be a little tricky
- And you get some conversions
So why make things complex!!
Recently I had a conversation with a fellow marketer about how frustrated he was getting with this affiliate marketing thing
I asked him what he was doing and he said he was doing the mumbo jumbo method. I call it the mumbo jumbo method but the honest truth is I have not a clue what method he was using or what it is called.
Why complicate things?
We have a business method that works, just duplicate the basics
A link for you. Learn Affiliate Marketing Basics

How To Cloak Affiliate Links
People find a good product through a website of yours and then go and buy the product using their own affiliate link. It takes only 5 minutes to generate your own affiliate link for a lot of products out there.
This is commission theft.
But how can you protect yourself against commission theft
The honest truth is that you cannot completely achieve this but you can reduce the frequency of link theft by cloaking your affiliate links.
So how do you easily cloak your affiliate links without having to buy some software or the other.
So that instead of an affiliate link that looks like
youraffiliatename.product.hop.clickbank
You have a link that reads
yourdomain/likes/name you choose for product
- First create a folder called likes. [you could choose to use recommends or goto or whatever else you want to appear after your domain name]
- Use this script
- Save it index.html file in a folder within the likes folder
- Name the new folder the name you want to call the product. So if you are promoting a link cloaker you could call that folder linkcloaker.
- Upload the likes folder with it's contained folder to your hosting account
And you are done.
What you have just done is set up a webpage on your website called mydomain/likes/productname which redirects to your affiliate URL.
Confused?
Read it again slowly

Some Useful Affiliate Marketing Forums
I remember when I first got into affiliate marketing, I was SOOO excited. I just wanted to talk about it all day long. Share ideas, sound off someone.
One of my friends got into affiliate marketing with me but lasted about 10 seconds. 'Seemed too difficult' apparently
So all this excitement and no one to share with
Till I discovered the affiliate marketing forums. Big day.
Now some of the forums are just areas full of spam, no useful information. Just people trying to get backlinks.
And at some forums.... well the big bad wolves are just waiting to jump and bite your head off when you say anything. Even hello!!
But I also found forums which were nurturing, full of really useful information and treated me with a little respect.
So I am sharing some of these forums with you here
- Warrior Forum Probably one of the most widely known affiliate marketing forums. A lot of really advanced affiliate marketers here.
- Digital Point Forum Another pretty large and very busy Internet marketing forum. Loads of newbies here but also a lot of more experienced marketers who share advice. Backlinks allowed in signature.

Hope you find these useful

Is Twitter Useful For Niche Affiliate Marketing
For whatever reason twitter seems rather popular especially with online marketers
So my question when I joined was does this really help?
I am a great believer in testing things out for myself so I duly signed up and did all the research necessary to improve my chances of succeeding with twitter
The results so far?
- Followers. I have managed to get a few followers i.e other people subscribed to my Tweets. I really honestly cannot tell you how they found my twitter account or why. But as long as their interest is maintained, I suppose that's the point of things really. By the way just to mention that I did nothing to advertise my twitter profile. Just set it up and added updates
- Updates. Really difficult to get a point across in a few words I find and some days I put tweets that even I would not be interested in. I think one really has to think carefully about the updates and get you main theme across within the first 4 or 5 words.
- Update Daily. Like blogging, Twitter seems to thrive on frequent posters. As my post frequency increased, the number of followers increased.
- Backlinks. I think Twitter is not really useful if you want to use it to get backlinks to your sites. Once the URL posted is longer than 30 characters, then it uses a tiny URL link. I am still trying to see how to get around this. Found a few methods which I will describe in a later post once I have tested them, but so far nothing that would create any excitement
So for me the jury is still out. I honestly believe that for marketing Twitter is just another social networking tool. The advantages are making more contacts and a platform on which you can build relationships and maybe build your online reputation. But as for any direct and immediate traffic benefits for your site, I don't think Twitter has anything special to offer
Obviously I am still testing things out and if things change as I gain experience, I'll let you know.

Does a Niche Affiliate Marketer Really Need a Laptop
Personally, I have a laptop and a desktop but tend to use my Laptop most of the time. Even when I am at home
But does a niche affiliate marketer or any other form of internet marketer actually need a laptop?
The Portable Business Model:
One of the things that probably attracted you to affiliate marketing as a business is probably the idea of being able to take your business anywhere with you.
With a bricks and mortar business, you are really constrained to the office, shop floor, wherever.
As an internet marketer as long as you have access to the internet and the relevant log ins and what have you, you should be able to conduct your business from just about anywhere, be it a nice hotel in La jolla or a sandy beach in Goa.
So what is the point of having a business with these perks if you do not have the tools to take advantage of them??
The Efficiency Factor:
You know the feeling.
You are stuck on a train, plane, boat, whatever and have nothing useful to pass the time.
You have loads of ideas runnng through your mind and nothing you can do to implement them...till you get home to your trusty old desktop.
So you make notes on little scraps of paper that you know you'll lose before you get home or will come out as little bits of felt in your pockets once the laundry is done. Yikes
Admit it, it's happend to you. Perhaps more often than you'd care to admit.
But take the same scenario with a laptop in your hand luggage. Totally different prospects.
You may not have internet connectivity but you can at least make notes of your ideas and save them in an ideas folder for example. Or even write a draft for your next blog post.
By the way, I am writing this sitting on a coach, stuck at Sheffield, England.
Don't ask why I am on a coach trip. Long story for another post
But to get back to the point, imagine the 30 minutes spent waiting here or there and what you could achieve in those 30 minutes.
...If only you had a laptop
For me, my laptop goes everywhere with me.
SO what stops you from investing a few hundred dollars in a piece of equipment that could help take your business to the next level
Free ground shipping on all Sony Style orders $100 or more.

Daily Schedule For The Affiliate Marketing Newbie
And it is, oh so easy to spend countless hours in front of the computer just churning smoke i.e no useful activity.
Here is a recommended schedule to help you structure your activities especially with regards to search engine optimization
Directory submissions: Aim to submit to 5 new directories everyday. % because with all the other daily activities you have to do, 5 is a good aim without compromising quality. Don't run out and submit to 50 directories in one day. It will just raise flags with the search engines and you will get labeled a spammer
Blog Commenting: Find 20 blogs that have DO Follow attribute in their comment links and post USEFUL comments including a link to your site. "0 comments on the same blog will not do. It has to be 20 different blogs and don't forget to vary your anchor text.
Blog commenting is actually a double advantage because while reading the posts you are commenting on, you will learn a heck of a lot about your niche
Forum Participation: 5 authority forums in your niche is really all it takes. Always structure your signature first, using anchor text to link to your site. Aim to post about 5 comments every day in each of your forums. Post useful comments and make sure you stay on topic. Remember, the forums are a place to build your reputation as well so keep the comments useful
Blog Posts: If you do not have a blog you need to start one NOW. Got to how to create a blogger blog and learn how to set up a free blog there. Then set up your blog today. Not tomorrow, not later now.
Aim to add a post at least once a week to your blog, but you really should be aiming for daily posts
[In this I fall short, but you have to remember I only market part time and am still able to post on a fairly regular basis]
Edit your Website: You must review your website on a daily basis and try to improve the content. You can add new content, post a freebie whatever. Improving your money site or building a new site in a new niche is something you must consider on a daily basis
You will find that doing the activities above on a daily basis will soon have a significant effect on the amount of traffic coming to your websites

Affiliate Marketing Beginners | The Solution Is Here
Many affiliate marketers have a problem with one area or the other of their business.
The bottom line is you built the website so as to make loads of money. That's the basis of internet marketing
I know there are a lot of guides out there about a call to action, search engine optimization, building the almighty opt in list and building webpages that convert. Heck I have written a few posts on this blog about very much the same things
But the affiliate marketing newbie does not know about autoresponders and a clear call to action
And more often than not he has no ethical bribe, 'freebie', to offer as an insentive to join his/her opt in list
No money for PPC ads, No clout to be sought out for JVs, nothing
So how is the humble internet marketing newbie to make a few bucks on the internet
Traffic.
Yes the simple answer is traffic.
Get tons of traffic to your website
And you can do it without investing one cent.
Yes , your site may not be the most professional site in the world.
And you may not yet have figured out which is the best Adsense block format for your pages
Just get a reasonable site out there ...
...And drive tons of traffic to it
If your conversions are 1%, and you only get 5 visitors to your site a day, you are looking at sticking to that day job for a long time to come.
It will take you 20 days to get a conversion on average.
Now take the same site and drive 1000 visitors to it a day.
Ah, the same 1% conversion rate results in ...10 conversions a day.
Now that is the beginning of a business
Once you have made some money with your high traffic, poor conversion site, perhaps consider investing some of those earnings in improving your site.
An average e book on increasing conversions will cost you about $47.
With the knowledge you gain, you can maintain your traffic but increase your conversions
Now how many sales or clicks a day would a 3% conversion rate make you

Get Rich Quick Schemes Or Scams
Was going throught the forums and blogs today just to see what news there is in the industry when i came across this on a high traffic blog
"I love a get rich quick system. Why? Because they always work !!"
I kinda did a double take. But i Thought it was probably a hook line and he will double back from this in the body of his post. But this affiliate marketing 'expert' stood very firmly by that statement. Did not really give any arguements for the statement, just made the assertion and went on to promote some casino sites
It really is shocking what people will say or do to make a buck online today
Get rich quick schemes do not work. Period.
Yes it may work for someone that your aunty's, hairdresser's, partner's baker's son overheard about on the subway but for the majority of people, they are money losing scams
Stick to a real business. Yes affiliate marketing takes time and effort but it is a busines model that works. Yes a lot of affiliates may complain that they are not making a ton of money but they all admit that they have made some money
The trick to affiliate marketing is just to keep working at it. Get better, get smater, build that list and eventually, you too will make some money

Affiliate Marketing Beginners, Professionalism Is Everything
I was browsing the forums and blogs this morning when I came across a post that really got my attention
No it was not some secret way to make gazillions online, nothing of the sort
It was about a game company launching an affiliate program. Nothing exciting about that except that they state in their policy that 'No SEO allowed'
Hey?
Did they mean SEO or something else?
Do they know what SEO means and how crucial it is to getting traffic via the search engines?
Anyway after much discussion it turns out that they made a mistake and SEO is allowed
A lame apology and red faces.
So am I going to jump on to the band wagon and promote this product. Of course not
The lesson is you must cross all your t's and dot all you i's BEFORE rolling out any campaign
No typos on your pages, no using of terms that you don't understand. no hype
Till next time
